A unique hotel. Very special atmosphere. Superb food, staff and comfort. Ideal for a truly relaxing break, or as an excellent base for exploring the surrounding countryside. We will definitely be back.

The only minor issue was that the extraction fan in Room 25 was not working. Also, the steps/path down to the river need more repairs to make them safer.

Excellent st\andard of decor and comfort, dining room table presentation, covers etc first class

Lack of access for wheelchair users and lack of facilities for them. Sadly this may prevent my visiting again.

we really enjoyed our stay in such wonderful surroundings. the staff were most pleasant and helpful. However we did think the dinner was rather overpriced as we did not need a gourmet experience and my husband could not eat his steak which was expensive for £30 for just one course. I think you could make more of the whole place by offering earlier weekend breaks including dinner at a lesser price and certainly not in November as you do now - you could be really busy in October for instance in the autumn - it would be lovely - you could do a lot more advertising and word would get around. On another note we enjoyed our drink in the bar and do hope your father is making a good recovery but as from our experience stroke recovery can take a time!thanks so muchRobin and Laurie Reilly best thing was walk round the gardens and dinner on terrace - v lucky with the weather - made up for it on Skomer in the rain for 3 hours!!

location was wonderful, bed very comfortable bedroomwas good size staf f pleasant

didn't like the fact that we were in an annexe so didn't get to use hotel facilities, too wet to go across to main building once back from visits out, very limited menu which wasn't available until 19.00hrs,bathroom rather basic and shower was very low pressure, being only guests in the annexe caused so anxiety as felt vulnerable although room was lockable entrance wasn't, had to go up short flight of stone steps to room, through chicken mess, and branches of bush were unpleasant in wet, I did push worst of them through railing felt it was overpriced for what it offered

Generally a fine hotel, competently run. Good food and great gardens, surroundings and views. I'll go back again if the need arises for me to be in Brecon area.

    No gripes.

Maid service on day of arrival went on far too long and was noisy outside our door

Good all-round hotel. Lovely grounds, comfortable rooms and good food.

    Dinner somewhat overpriced

Our visit surpassed all expectations for a 2 day break away in the Brecon Beacons in a top class, friendly and informal, family run Country House Hotel. It started with the setting - quiet, peaceful and an amazing outlook over the River Usk without a house or buiding in sight. The tranquility was disturbed only, by the background ripple of the River Usk and Cock Pheasants scrapping in defence of their territory and their nesting Hens. All staff were charming, inobtrusive and efficient and the food outstanding. The interior and furnishings were cleverly in keeping with the combination of Victorian and Italianate Architecture of the House, the flavour of which was mirrored in the landscaping of the Gardens and Grounds. A truly exceptional and memorable experience.

It was just perfect. A very efficient and courteous owner, the most friendly and always ready to serve personnel, awesome nature and exquisite gardens, excellent dinner, relaxed atmosphere, and last but not least, a wifi that works.

Delightful setting with beautiful terrace and grounds. Unique old building with lots of charm.

The small double room we originally booked was not suitable for 2 people so they transferred our reservation to another room with the same cost which was fine.

Character hotel in beautiful grounds in stunning location. Smart but welcoming, relaxing and non-pretentious (smiley receptionist who discretely ignored muddied walking gear on arrival !). Very friendly and efficient staff. Excellent dinner and good breakfast . Afternoon tea a nice touch and most welcome after a day's walking!. Well located for walkers - Brecon Beacons, Black Mountains and Cambrian Mountains within easy reach.

The location is stunning and the views from the terrace were lovely. The room and facilities were beautifully kept and the staff were very polite and helpful.

The cost of high tea was rather expensive: £12 per person.

  • Family with children
    9.6

The place is very comfortable but it avoids any hint of trying to appeal to either the conference market or those people who revel in "luxury". Basically there is nothing remotely vulgar about the place. The location is stunning, the gardens perfectly kept and there is a genuine pride in the place - not just from the owners but also the friendly and attentive staff.
